LifeLike-cheap and quite chic

04 September 2010

I have always been a "Skins" fan, but lately I have become particularly enamoured with Effy Stonem's sense of tough yet nonchalant style.

Effy always never tries.

(follow this link for some music to set the mood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWOyfLBYtuU&ob=av2e )

I can picture her wearing this with a pair of her fishnets, Doc. Martens or black buckle boots, bucket loads of necklaces-and of course, her trusty black leather jacket.
Forever 21, Shimmer Woven Dress, $24.80

Worn with nearly every outfit, black fishnets are an Effy essential. They can be purchased at stores like Target or American Apparel, or online at We Love Colors for $9.

These boots are surprisingly spot-on. Effy treks everywhere in her Doc. Martens or buckle boots, but seeing as Doc. Martens cost $100-plus, we're going to go with these :) They can be worn with everything from short dresses with tights to custom-cut t-shirts to jeans and tops.
Forever 21, Buckled Leatherette Boots, $32.80

Perhaps one of my favourite outfits Effy wears is her customized horse t-shirt with her black lace bra peeking out. The best thing about this look? You can easily make it yourself! All you need is a plain or printed oversize, preferably longer, t-shirt and scissors. Perhaps the simplest of all DIY projects-just cut off the sleeves and down the sides a bit. Good luck!!

Of course, this post would not be complete if I didn't include a leather jacket! Worn practically in every other episode, this could be considered an Effy "classic." It is a bit more expensive than many of the other items I post. However, this is a classic piece that you can wear for as long as you can fit into it, so it should be well worth the investment.

Neutral Footwear

As you probably know, nude and neutral footwear have been pretty big lately, both on and off the runway.

Well, I'm here to provide you with a few cheaper alternatives, both casual and dressy. The great thing about this trend is its versatility!

This first shoe is one of the more dressy shoes in the post. The basketweave on the front is quite spectacular.
Forever21 Evelyn Peep Toe Heels, $24.80

The boot-sandal style has become increasingly popular lately, so of course, I had to include these chic (and slightly tough) sandals.
Urban Outfitters Deena & Ozzy Canvas Wrap Sandal, $29.99

I love oxfords. In fact, I have a similar pair (also from Forever 21) that I wear every chance I get

Oxfords, especially neutral ones, are great because they can be worn with practically anything-skirts, trousers, leggings, you name it.
Forever 21 Open Toe Oxford Heels, $25.80

These gladiators are a great summer option-especially at this price; you can afford the wear-and-tear that will eventually take place.
GoJane strappy zip up front open toe sandal, $19

These super-strappy shoes are just lovely. They can be dressed up or down, especially because of the 1.5 inch heel, which will give you a little lift.
Urban Outfitters Cooperative Multibuckle Sandal, $19.99

I love every little thing about these wedges: the geometric cutouts, the disguised 2 inch wedge heel, and the fresh white colour. Simply divine.

First Post!

Hi there readers! I'm quite excited that I finally got a blog started, because I've had the idea kind of rolling around in my head for a while, but now I've actually decided to do it. Okay, so as you can tell from the intro this is a fashion blog. I love reading all of the high-end fashion blogs (they inspire me so much!), but when I see the "where to buy" sections, I get a little depressed. $1000 for a bag? $900 for clogs?? It can get it bit ridiculous. After encountering these prices on the covetable items, I usually go to much cheaper websites (Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, etc.) to look for cheap alternatives-and by cheap I do not mean $90. Here i am going to post cheaper (but still quality) versions of trends, as well as the occasional bit of inspiration (you'll have to wait and see ;) ). Hope to see you soon!
